The little things you’ll find here are chosen with care. Our bathrooms are stocked with The White Company shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion—elegant and indulgent, but also sourced thoughtfully through ADA Cosmetics, a supplier that’s become a leader in sustainable hospitality. ADA have picked up international recognition for their eco-friendly packaging, Cradle to Cradle® certifications, and even awards for how they treat their people. Knowing that our toiletries are backed by that kind of commitment makes them feel all the more special.
But we go one step further. When bottles are opened but not quite finished, we don’t throw them away. Instead, we collect them and pass them on to Toiletries Amnesty, a charity that supports homeless shelters and hostels, women’s refuges, and children and youth centres to alleviate hygiene poverty. Something as simple as a half-full bottle of conditioner can bring real dignity to someone else’s day. For us, it’s a small but meaningful way to encourage our guests to travel with purpose and leave a positive mark long after their stay.
Sustainability also runs through the bones of the house. Our green roof isn’t the lush garden you see on glossy eco brochures—in reality, it’s a mix of grass, weeds and wild plants that turns golden brown in the summer because we don’t water it. But even like this, it still insulates the house, absorbs rainwater, and creates a little habitat for wildlife. To us, it’s proof that sustainability isn’t always perfect—it’s about sticking to the principle, even if nature decides how it looks.
Inside, a heat recovery ventilation system keeps warmth circulating efficiently. Ourpool is powered by a heat pump, reducing energy demand compared with traditional systems. And while we still rely on an oil boiler, we’re open about it—and we’re actively watching for the right time to switch to a greener option. Honest sustainability means celebrating the progress we’ve made while admitting there’s still work to do.
